New security features in U.S. banknotes have made counterfeiting our classic "greenbacks" more and more difficult. The watermarks, security threads and other features are easy to check, but hard to duplicate. So what is a professional counterfeiter to do? Collect unemployment? Doubtful. Nowadays, the counterfeiters simply change to another medium. Banknotes are hard to counterfeit, but memory cards are not. We recently had an article about counterfeit memory cards being sold on internet auction sites in the November 2007 Newsletter "Piracy on the Digital Seas. Now Sony is doing what they can to stop counterfeiting and to help their customers. It was simply a matter of time before Sony's exclusive memory stick began to be copied. Click HERE to read Sony's letter to their customers. Sony also provides a list of authorized dealers HERE.With the price of some of the high end memory cards reaching well over a hundred dollars, it may actually be more lucrative to counterfeit memory cards rather than banknotes, and probably much easier. What should you do? Only buy memory cards from trusted sources. If the price is too good to be true, it probably is, and you should pass. Adray Camera works very hard at providing quality products, we only buy our memory cards direct from the manufacturer. To date, we've never had a counterfeit product in our store, and we hope to keep it that way.
Congratulations to Adray's own Teresa Lousias (pictured at right) for placing third in the Pro Photography Competition at Children's Hospital. Teresa is currently on exhibit at the Lawrence Street Gallery. If you would like to meet Teresa, stop into the store, or visit her April 18th at the River's Edge Gallery in Wyandotte.

Canon and Adray's are currently trying to put together a Digital Rebel class. Keep a lookout for details to come. Fun Fact Silver is still heavily used in photographic materials. So much so that 30 percent of the US silver production is utilized in the photo industry where silver is used in film emulsions and a variety of chemical developers. In fact, the photo industry represents the largest single use of silver.
